Publicity and Public Awareness

Aim: To provide all stakeholders, including the scientific audience and wider public, with research-based transfer of knowledge and information regarding the influences of climate change on biodiversity.

 

Objectives and expected outcomes:

5.1. Organisation of the opening and closing seminars for the Project

Description: During the opening seminar for the project, all stakeholders, including the government bodies, local governments, societies, and other competent authorities, will be informed about the topicality of the issue, the aims, and the activities planned in the Project, and active involvement of the participants will be facilitated. During the closing seminar of the Project, all stakeholders will be informed about the results achieved in the Project (the Project outcomes).

5.2. Publicity plan

Description: During the opening seminar of the Project, the publicity plan will be presented to the participants, and the plan of the expected outcomes will be coordinated between the Project partners.

5.3. Website development and maintenance, and development of Project logo

Description: The Project website in Latvian and English will be created with information about the Project (its aims, objectives, activities and the expected outcomes). The website will be updated continuously by publishing all project activities, reports, and other materials as well as information about the planned events on it. The website will be the main source of information for wider public, covering all target groups in the project. Upon the completion of the Project, the website will be integrated into the current website www.lhei.lv of the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology.

5.4. Participation in an international conference

Description: During the project it is planned to present two thesis at one of the largest climate change conference in the Baltic Sea Region, the “Baltic Earth – Earth System Science for the Baltic Sea Region” (two people with their thesis will take part in this conference). The Project outcomes will be communicated to the leading scientists in the Baltic Sea countries and other world countries. Additionally, the scientists involved in the project will establish contacts with the scientists of the leading institutes dealing with the issues of climate change in the Baltic Sea Region and the world.

5.5. Participation in a domestic conference in Latvia

Description: During the Project, it is planned to present a paper at the scientific conference organised by the University of Latvia, during which the Project outcomes will be communicated to the students and academic staff of the Latvian institutions of tertiary education, researchers from the Latvian scientific institutes, representatives of state and local government authorities, non-governmental organisations, and representatives of societies. As a result, the participants of the conference will have a comprehensive and updated picture of the effects on climate change on biological diversity in the Baltic Sea.

Outcome: At least 2 papers presented at the Latvian domestic conference

5.6. Preparation of a scientific publication for an internationally reviewed collection of scientific articles

Description: At least one scientific publication for an internationally reviewed collection of scientific articles during the Project.

Outcome: Prepared publication

5.7. Preparation of a scientific publication for a collection of scientific articles reviewed in Latvia

Description: At least one scientific publication for a collection of scientific articles reviewed in Latvia during the Project.

Outcome: Prepared publication

5.8. Information in mass media

Description: Two popular science articles will be prepared during the Project to educate the society about the topicality of the research, the aims of the project and the achieved outcomes.

Result: Two published popular science articles

5.9. An information and educational material in the form of a brochure

Description: A popular science brochure will be prepared during the Project on the effects of climate change on biological diversity in the Baltic Sea. The brochure will assure transfer of information to the target audience of the Project (including competent persons from government bodies, local governments, societies, non-governmental organisations as well as university students, pupils, environment guides, etc.) based on scientific research.

5.10. Preparation of Project information panels 

Description: Information panels made in accordance with the requirements established in the EEAFI and NFI Communication and Design Manual will be posted in the office premises of the Project applicant and the partners to reflect the support provided via the financial instrument.
